Under grading rules for Walnut more knots and defects are allowed than
in other species of hardwoods and this should be considered with regards
wastage. It is common practice to steam or stain the sapwood to match
its colour with the heartwood. Although this does reduce the brightness
of the sapwood, making the difference less pronounced, it is advisable
to try to incorporate sapwood as an accepted part of the wood.
Not kept in stock. Available in 1”, 1 ¼”, 1 ½”, 2”, 2 ½”, 3”& 4” thicknesses. American Black Walnut is generally not available as a wide timber, this is due to the amount of sap present in boards over 6” wide.
